The punter outlaid $5000 on Captivate at the fixed odds of $15 for a return of $75,000, which was $18,750 short of the $93,750 total stakemoney earned by the mare's connections in the 1600-metre feature. "We didn't have a very good day at all at Te Aroha," said Paul Lally, head of the TAB Fixed Odds betting. "As well as the big payout on Captivate, there were some big bets on Cagney, who was backed down from the opening price of $4 to start at $2.30." One punter had $4000 on Cagney at $4 for a return of $16,000, while another punter bet $2000 at $3.60 to receive $7200. The TAB boys got a bit back when $10,000 bets went astray on Eskimo Queen and Prized Touch. Lally and the team are now gearing up the three big meetings this weekend - Ellerslie, Manawatu and Riccarton. "We'll be on course at Ellerslie where Sir Slick will be trying to keep the punters happy with another victory," said Lally Winners: Captivate $5000 @ $15 to return $75,000, Cagney $4000 @ $4 to return $16,000, Belthazar $3000 @ $4.60 to return $13,800, Cagney $2000 @ $3.60 to return $7200, Fourwinners $2000 @ $2 to return $4000, Coup Cullum $5000 @ $1.50 to return $7500.
