A combination of a number of short priced favourites winning along with a couple of longshots specked at long odds saw the punters come out in front of the bookies last Saturday.
At the premier meeting held at Awapuni the wins of Anahera and Sir Slick provided multi punters with plenty of ammunition, while the roughies Valpolicella (pictured) and Lord were both specked at long odds.
Grand Canyon who was backed in from an opening quote of $13 to start at $8 was another bad result for the bookies, while the wins of Snow Patrol, Jowka and Il Quello Veloce proved good results for the book.
The punters got off to a flying start at Ellerslie when the heavily backed Better On Top was successful in the first race, then backed up on the other two short priced favourites Crossyourheart and Shining Light.
