News Bad For Bookies After Cup
Friday, 02 January 2009

ImageCambridge galloper Six O'Clock News (pictured) finally rewarded his patient army of supporters when winning the Gr II Don Ha City of Auckland Cup at Ellerslie on New Years Day.

The heavily backed second favourite was a bad result for the book with the largest wager laid being $5000 @ $7 for a return of $35,000.

The worst result for the bookies on the day was the Stephen McKee-trained Culminate, who was successful in the Gr II Rich Hill Mile, while two year old Katie Lee was heavily backed to win the Gr III Stella Artois Eclipse Stakes.

The upset win of the Kristine Stead-trained Jacowils in the Gr I Waiwera Railway Stakes was a great result for the bookies despite being specked at long odds.
