There will be plenty of smiling faces out there and punters will have their pockets full leading into the Matamata meeting this weekend and the Auckland Carnival the following Saturday.

"This weekend we will be on course for the first time in the Waikato area at the Matamata meeting," said Paul Lally, head of the TAB's Fixed Odds Betting.

"We are so looking forward to coming up and trying to win some of it back."

Last week didn't start off well when a multi got up at the Ellerslie midweek meeting  as a punter effectively took a fixed odds poker bet (3 Doubles and a Treble) on Dashboard Light ($13) into Jumeriah Jade ($10) into Bella Renza at ($3) for a return of $262,000.

We thought that was bad enough, however, there were numerous multis finishing on Red Square ($100,000 total) and Hakuna Matata ($125,000) and Apache Cat ($200,000), all being smallish ones that ran through horses such as Absolute Glam, Fritzy Boy, Pentour, Magnetite, Special Mission, Ransom Express and Clifton Prince.

Some of the bigger single Winners included:

Red Square $16,000 at $2.30 to return $36,800, Fritzy Boy $11,000 at $1.40 to return $15,400, Magnetite $10,000 at $3.00 to return $30,000, Fritzy Boy $10,000 @ $1.40 to return $14,000, Apache Cat $10,000 at $1.90 to return $19,000,  Hakuna Matata $5000 at $2.50 to return $12,500, Clifton Prince $4000 at $3.20 to return $12,800, Colorado $4000 at $2.30 to return $9200, Pentour $4000 at $4 to return $16,000.
